2005-04-11 - 9:51 p.m. Yesterday saw new york filled with the strangest sort of moments. Walking down first ave, I saw a deranged-looking man walking up the street, using a cane, holding his crotch like a pervert. As I walked by though, I saw the wet trail down his pants and realized he couldn't hold it. Instead of panicking into the nearest store, he held his head high. What was his story? Did he live alone? hockey was good. We played at moffo down by chinatown, with big nets and boards and everything. Bad Touch beat the skyfighters 4-3, and yours truly scored the winning goal. What a change from last year, when I scored in my first scrimmage and not since. Tuckman and I walked back into chinatown to catch the bus back to the village. We waited forever, during which time, I learned that Chinese-Americans don't drink gatorade much (it took like ten stores before finding one that sold it). We watched an old man arrive on a rickety bicycle with a box in the back for fish. he dropped some off at the restaurant, came out, and grabbed my hockey stick. he tried to use it like a boat pole (like he lived in venice) I took it back and faked a shot, and he understood with a great "aaaaaahhhh" what it was for. I had another date with the painter that went really well. we had dinner and a movie ("Melinda and Melinda"). we had fun and walked around union square before setting a day for date #3 and kissing goodbye, stumbling, her bag falling everywhere. Walking home, I saw the players outside the clubs on 4th ave and at webster hall. Their collared striped shirts hung out, they fronted. All these things I saw yesterday in new york, and I'll miss them when I'm gone. There's a thousand kinds of people in nyc, and everyone has a story. I'll miss seeing the drama of the look of the crazy man on first ave. I'll miss the whole different world that is Chinatown just south of Houston. I'll miss playing hockey under the Manhattan bridge. I'll miss being able to spend the summer playing surrounded by buildings and skyscrapers and trains going by. I'll miss all of it.
